Design:
At 167.7 x 77.8 x 8.1mm, Tecno Pop 20 is compact for a cheap phone with a 5,000mAh battery. IP64 protects from dust and water splashes from any direction. The 1.2-meter drop resistance makes you more confident in common physical situations. The fingerprint sensor is on the side for fast biometric unlocking. There are four color options, Ink Black, Titanium Gray, Aurora Purple and Galaxy Blue, giving more color choices than most other budget phones at this price.
Display:
The Pop 20 features a 6.75-inch IPS at 720 x 1600 pixels with a 120Hz refresh rate. The big 6.75-inch canvas offers plenty of area to watch videos, read and browse social media. The 120Hz refresh rate is a big differential at this price point, making scrolling feel much smoother than on 60Hz budget phones. The primary restriction is the HD+ resolution: on this screen size, you can see individual pixels on close inspection and text is less clear than FHD+ displays on higher-priced phones. It’s a real upgrade for buyers moving up from a basic phone or a 60Hz inexpensive Android.
Camera:
The Pop 20 comes with a 13MP back with dual-LED flash and AI scene optimization and an 8MP front camera. The 13MP rear camera is good for posting to social media and basic documentation in daylight. Tecno’s FlashSnap and AutoSnap software capabilities might help you capture moving subjects. The tiny sensor restricts low-light shooting without OIS or a wide aperture. The 8MP selfie camera is good for video calling and casual photographs. The cameras aren’t as good as mid-range phones that cost more. The camera is more for practical, everyday use than enthusiast-level shooting.
Performance:
With 4GB of physical RAM (and a further of virtual extended RAM), and running on Android 15 with HiOS, the Unisoc T7250 handles all the usual everyday Kenyan use-cases comfortably. WhatsApp, M-Pesa, social media, YouTube and Google Maps all work without major hiccups. The Mali-G57 GPU takes care of casual games at low to medium settings. 3D games with high settings will require major graphics reduction . Heavy multitasking and having numerous programs open at the same time can tax the 4GB of physical RAM therefore you may experience periodic slowdowns. Tecno’s default choice for stock entry-level chips is the Unisoc T7250, which delivers decent (but not great) performance for the price. Tecno has not confirmed update promise beyond Android 15 ; Look for updates.
Connectivity:
The Pop 20 supports 4G LTE on Airtel and Telkom Kenya. Lacks 5G support. Dual-band Wi-Fi (works on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz). Bluetooth is for wireless earbuds & accessories FreeLink 2.0 offers up to 1.5 kilometers Bluetooth direct peer-to-peer communication without network or internet. GPS offers navigation and positioning services. FM radio requires no data. IR blaster controls household appliances . USB-C 2.0 for charging and data transfer. There is no NFC.
Battery and Charging:
The Pop 20 carries a 5,000mAh battery with 15W wired charging. The 5,000mAh cell comfortably covers a full day of moderate daily use. The 15W charging is slow at this price tier, a full charge from flat takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours, making overnight charging the practical routine for most users.
