It is a smartphone that unfolds twice to reveal a 10-inch tablet-sized AMOLED display in a form factor that, when unfolded, is 3.9–4.2mm thin.

The Samsung TriFold is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite, snaps a 200MP triple camera system, has a 5,600mAh three-cell battery, and supports standalone Samsung DeX. This makes it a true mobile workstation.

The Galaxy Z TriFold operates in three distinct modes:

Folded (Phone mode): 159.2 x 75 x 12.9 mm, a conventional smartphone form factor with the 6.5-inch cover display. Heavy at 309g but usable one-handed
Half-unfolded (Flex mode): The inner panel opens to roughly 7 inches, like a standard book-style foldable, useful for video calls, reading, and split-screen apps
Fully unfolded (Tablet mode): 159.2 x 214.1 x 3.9–4.2 mm, a full 10-inch tablet that is thinner than most smartphones. This is the mode that makes the TriFold unlike any other foldable handset in Kenya.

Design & Build:

The Galaxy Z Tri Fold’s build is Samsung’s most complex engineering achievement in a consumer device, with the folded exterior protected by Gorilla Glass Victus Ceramic 2. A ceramic-reinforced glass offering superior scratch and impact resistance. The back panel uses a ceramic-glass fiber-reinforced polymer, lightweight yet rigid. The critical hinge mechanism uses a titanium hinge housing, while the overall frame is built from Samsung's Advanced Armor Aluminum.

When fully unfolded at 3.9–4.2 mm, the Z Tri Fold is thinner than a standard credit card stack, an almost impossible-seeming achievement given the complexity of the folding mechanism inside. Folded, it is 12.9mm thick, noticeably chunky in a pocket, though manageable.

At 309 grams, this is the heaviest device in this review series. Two hinges, three display panels, a three-cell battery, and titanium hardware all contribute to that weight. For context, it is heavier than some tablets. Buyers must be comfortable with this; it is the unavoidable engineering reality of tri-fold technology in 2025.

It carries an IP48 rating, protected against dust particles larger than 1 mm and submersible up to 1.5 m for 30 minutes. This is lower than the IP68 found on the S26 series, reflecting the additional sealing challenges posed by two-fold hinges. It is available exclusively in Crafted Black.

Display:

Cover Display (6.5 inches):

The outer cover screen is a 6.5-inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X at 1080 x 2520 pixels (422 ppi), peaking at 2,600 nits, as bright as the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Protected by Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, this screen is used whenever the device is folded into phone mode. It is sharp, vibrant, and perfectly capable for calls, messaging, social media, and everyday tasks.

Main Inner Display (10 inches):

The main tri-foldable inner display is a 10-inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X with a resolution of 1584 x 2160 pixels in a 4:3 aspect ratio, the same proportions as an iPad. At 269 ppi, it is a noticeably lower pixel density than the cover screen, which is the standard trade-off for large foldable inner panels. The panel peaks at 1,600 nits (lower than the cover display), runs at 120Hz adaptively, and supports HDR.

The 4:3 aspect ratio is a deliberate choice; it minimizes letterboxing when watching widescreen content and makes the 10-inch canvas feel more natural for document editing, spreadsheets, web browsing, and video. The viewing experience is far closer to a compact tablet than a phone and has excellent outdoor visibility.

Performance:

The Z Tri Fold is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite (3 nm). This is the same chip generation as the Galaxy S26 Ultra (which has the newer Gen 5 variant). With 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM standard across all variants, multitasking on the 10-inch display is genuinely smooth, running three apps simultaneously side by side without slowdown. Storage options are 512GB or 1TB, both on UFS storage. No microSD slot.

One UI 8 has been specifically optimized for the tri-fold form factor. App scaling transitions between the three modes are smooth, multitasking layouts are intelligent, and Samsung's taskbar makes navigating multiple open apps on the 10-inch display intuitive. This is the most refined foldable software experience Samsung has produced.

Camera System:

The Z Tri Fold shares its camera hardware with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 — Samsung's flagship book-style foldable:

You can expect a full day of mixed use, with heavy full-screen video or gaming reducing endurance faster.

Connectivity:

The Z Tri Fold is fully equipped: 5G, Wi-Fi 7 (tri-band), Bluetooth 5.4, NFC for tap-to-pay, Ultra Wideband (UWB) for precision spatial tracking, and USB-C 3.2 for fast data transfer and external display connection.
